Servant Leadership Includes Giving Back to the Community

Since 2007 Lake Huron Retreat Center guests have supported the center’s Food for God’s People Ministry. All guests have the opportunity to bring nonperishable food items and/or toiletries to the Center. Lake Huron staff delivers items to Project Blessing, a food bank operated cooperatively by churches in nearby Lexington. In 15 years, guests have contributed nearly 31,000 items! In 2015 the project expanded to include bath tissue and paper towels for Cass Community Social Services. Nearly 2,000 items have been donated to Cass!

For the second year, Lake Michigan Camp & Retreat will be part of a Women Veterans Weekend in partnership with West Michigan SAIL (WMS). WMS organizes the fall weekend to give women veterans a restful and restorative weekend that includes sailing lessons, fly fishing, equestrian therapy, yoga, self-care and more. The campground provides the group free lodging and meals at cost.

A ministry new to the campground this year has been gifting free camping to foster and adoptive families. Over 20 families have enjoyed special times and created memories at Lake Michigan campground through the program. The site is one eight Michigan campgrounds to partner with the nonprofit Give Hope RV.
