More Than a Summer Job
Grace Outside announces the return of its summer intern program. We are grateful to the Michigan Conference of the United Methodist Church for the funding grant that fuels the summer camp internship program.
The ideal candidates are 18-25-year-olds looking to expand their knowledge and skills in outdoor education, ministry, recreation, administration, or other related fields. “When we hire our summer interns, we look for individuals who are responsible, fun, and good role models,” says Executive Director David Berkey. “These individuals are responsible for the care and support of hundreds of campers throughout the summer and we take that very seriously!”
This type of summer job can build your leadership skills, understanding of camp ministry and score big points on your resume — and it can be fun and fulfilling! Many times summer interns return and talk about how much they enjoyed and grew from the experience. “This was the best summer I’ve ever had,” Mae Wikkerinkk said. “I’ve seen a lot of growth in myself and learned new skills I didn’t realize I had in me.”
Summer Camp Interns work with their supervisor, coworkers and other interns throughout the summer, tailor their learning experiences to their interests, receive specialized training, and support each other through weekly check-ins. Training begins in June and the program runs 10 weeks (with room for some flexibility as your schedule may require).
