UM CAMPING Brand Getting Makeover
Michigan Area United Methodist Camping has been taking big strides in improving the physical state of buildings, grounds and infrastructure over the past few years. During this time, we’ve also dug into our core values and mission to ensure how the programming and experiences offered translate into life-changing opportunities for guests and campers.
Over the past couple decades mainline church attendance has been on a decline, which has also meant a challenge for church-sponsored camps. Michigan Area United Methodist Camping was not spared from the realities of a shrinking base of constituents.
At the same time, God’s gift of camp is needed more than ever! Today’s children, youth, families and adults want:
~ A place where they feel not just welcome, but a sense of belonging
~ A place where they feel encouraged in their Christian faith journey
~A place where they can safely go outside and discover the joy of nature
~A place where grace abounds and God’s love is absolute
So, while you’re busy enjoying the summer season at Lake Huron, Lake Michigan and Wesley Woods, we’ll be building a new brand that is inviting and welcoming to everyone regardless of their familiarity with church or religion.
We are grateful to the United Methodist Camps & Retreat Ministries (UMCRM) Association for a $10,000 grant to help roll out this message with the launch of our new website and branding materials in the fall. UMCRM awarded $1.7 million in Ministry Impact Grants to 68 projects in May 2023. The grant program was funded by an anonymous family foundation. Lake Michigan Camp & Retreat also received a grant.
